“Secure the Building” protocol issued for three Regina schools due to Thursday afternoon gun call

Regina Police are investigating a fireamrs incident in the city’s northwest area that prompted a “secure the building” procedure at three of Regina’s elementary schools.

Students at W.H. Ford, Centennial and St. Jerome schools took part in “secure the building” protocol Thursday afternoon, just after 2:00 PM after police were called to Wheatly Bay for a potential firearms incident.

School Resource Officers attended to the schools and the school boards were notified.

Regina Police define “secure the building” protocol as a potential threat outside of the building, which is different from a “lockdown,” which would mean a threat is inside the building.

Classes resumed as scheduled, and dismissal was safely completed.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing, and residents were advised to avoid the area Thursday evening, but the situation on Wheatly Bay has concluded.
