Man charged after throwing knife at Regina Police officer

A 30-year-old man is facing charges after Regina Police responded to a weapons offence call late Tuesday afternoon.

Officers were called to the area of Wascana Street and 4th Avenue around 5:15 p.m. where a man was said to be threatening another man with a knife.

Once police arrived they tracked the suspect to the 1000 block of Pasqua Street, the suspect then pulled a knife from his pants and began waving it an officer.

The police officer gave the suspect direction to drop the knife. After being challenged numerous times the suspect threw the knife towards the police officer.

The suspect was then taken into custody without further incident. It was then determined he was not the suspect from the original weapons call for service.

As a result 30-year-old Michael Pelltier has been charged with assaulting a peace officer while carrying a weapon, possessing a weapon  for a dangerous purpose, and carrying a concealed weapon.

Pelltier will be in court Wednesday morning.

As for the initial call, police say that is still under investigation, anyone with information is asked to call Regina Police or Crime Stoppers.
