Saskatoon’s Frank Atchison is braving the heat as he continues on his journey to Regina in support of the Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital.
Starting his journey at the top of the Lumsden hill Thursday, Atchison said he’s feeling good after conquering the valley.
“I got the worst part of the hill behind me, this was one of my concerns, just getting up the hill,” said Atchison. “I got a couple of helpers here to steady me along, so I think I’m going to make it ok.”
As southern Saskatchewan deals with a heat wave, Atchison says he’s not too worried about the sizzling temperatures.
“I can stand a lot of heat, I started railroading in 1945 and there were mostly hand-fired engines and I saw the temperature and the gauge go right out of sight,” said Atchison. “So, the heat doesn’t bother me that much.”
As tiring as walking every day has been, Atchison says the journey has been incredible.
“There’s just so many things that we got right here in Saskatchewan that’s worth taking the time out and going and seeing them and visiting with the people in these small towns,” said Atchison. “Get the history, there’s just so much history, so it’s been enjoyable.”
Atchison is scheduled to arrive in Regina sometime around June 15th.
