Co-Op Refinery issuing layoff notices

Layoffs are happening at the Co-Op Refinery Complex.

The company says formal notice has been given to the union about reducing the number of in-scope positions because of operational efficiencies achieved while preparing to shift towards a low carbon economy.

Federated Co-Op says it is working to reach an agreement with the union that could reduce the number of required layoffs by looking at current vacancies, attrition and voluntary buyouts including early retirement.

Workers at the complex were involved in a lengthy labour dispute that ended almost a year ago after a six month lockout.

A call has been placed to Unifor 594 to get reaction but at this time, there has been no response
