Regina Police forced to taser man threating self harm early Tuesday morning

Regina Police say they were forced to taser a man downtown early Tuesday morning, after he threatened to harm himself with a knife.

Officers were called to the 1800 block of Scarth Street around 5:00 a.m. where the man was non-compliant with officers and refused to drop the
knife.

In a news release police say responding officers perceived the immediate need for control, due to a high risk of death or serious bodily harm, prompting the deployment of the CEW (taser).

The man dropped the knife and was safely taken into custody. He was assessed at the scene by EMS and taken to the Regina General Hospital for further evaluation.

The investigation is continuing at this time.
