A Regina man is facing an assault with weapon charge after an exchange between him and a woman Wednesday afternoon in downtown Regina.

A statement sent Thursday afternoon by the Regina Police Service indicates the 56-year-old woman works at the COVID-19 isolation unit in the Ramada Plaza on Victoria Avenue. The unit serves for people who are COVID-19 positive but are unable to self-isolate.

According to police, the woman was on her break outside when she had a verbal exchange with 62-year-old George Seitz, a member of a group of protestors outside the hotel. The woman told police she had allegedly been struck in the head with the man’s sign.

Officers arrived to the scene at about 3:00 p.m., and after an investigation into the incident, arrested Seitz.

He was released on an undertaking and will make his first court appearance on this charge on September 13 in provincial court.
