Truck thief arrested by Regina police Tuesday night

A 21-year-old Regina man is in custody after stealing a vehicle earlier in the week.

Alexander Giesbrecht has been charged for theft of motor vehicle and possession of stolen property under $5,000.

Regina Police 911 operators received a call on Tuesday at 6:35 p.m. from a man who said someone had taken his truck – a green 1997 GMC 1500. The truck was stolen from an alley in on the 1300 block of Rothwell Street.

At around 10:45 p.m., members of the Regina Police Service Canine Unit spotted a vehicle which matched the description on Rae Street. After travelling southbound in the truck, Giesbrecht was seen abandoning the vehicle in the area of Dewdney Avenue and Edward Street and fled on foot. However officers arrested Giesbrecht without incident a few minutes later.
