Sask NDP calls for stiffer penalties for anti-mask rally organizers

The opposition is calling on the Moe government to introduce stiffer fines for protesters against public health measures to control the pandemic.

NDP Leader Ryan Meili says rallies which include the leader of the People’s Party of Canada, Maxime Bernier, are flaunting public health orders and the fines.

Premier Scott Moe says he condemns the rallies.

Moe says Bernier is a failed federal leadership candidate who is craving public attention and he won’t comply.

Moe says the route out of the pandemic is through vaccination.

Justice minister Gordon Wyant says the fines allow a maximum of 75 thousand dollars for breaching public health orders and an NDP proposed 10 thousand dollar minimum would have little impact.
