Two arrested after Thursday night weapons incident

Two people are facing charges following a weapons offence in Regina.

 

On Thursday, around 10:34 am, police responded to the 700 block of Connaught Street for a report of a firearms offence. Information suggests two people were fighting in front of a residence, and both appeared to be holding long guns.

 

When police arrived, a woman was taken safely into custody. In her arrest, a shotgun shell and a folding knife were located. A man was taken into custody as he was leaving a residence and a firearm was located.

Police cleared a neighbouring house to make sure no was injured, and then obtained a search warrant. They found a .243 calibre rifle in the search. Investigation determined the rifle was fired inside the house earlier that day.

 

40-year-old Barry Akapew, and 31-year-old Shanna McNab have both been charged with unauthorized possession of a firearm, and careless storage of a firearm.

 

Both suspects made their first court appearance Friday morning.
