Refunds included in Air Canada deal with federal government

Refunds are coming for eligible customers who bought a non-refundable ticket for travel on an Air Canada flight on or after February 1, 2020, but did not fly.

The airline has revised its refund policy to cover tickets and Air Canada vacation packages that were bought before April 13,2021 for flights that were cancelled either by the airline or by the customer for any reason.

If a customer had already accepted a travel voucher or Aeroplan points instead of a refund, they will have the option to exchange for a refund.

This comes after Air Canada and Ottawa struck a deal that will provide a total of $5.9 billion in federal aid.  Around $1.4-billion has been set aside for the airline to process and issue refunds to customers, which the company must begin no later than the end of April.

Air Canada says it has already refunded more than $1.2 billion to customers since March 2020.
