Saskatchewan WInter Games looking for financial aid from city

The 2022 Saskatchewan Winter Games are scheduled to be held in Regina next February, but the event is having a tough time getting sponsors.

During a meeting of Executive Committee this week, board chair Valerie Sluth said they have only found $75,000 in sponsorship and a deficit of $350,000 in budget planning.

Sluth is asking the city for $100,000. $50,000 would be a grant coming out of an Events, Convention and Tradeshows fund while another $50,000 would be what is being called an “in-kind donation” of rental fees for facilities that will be used during the course of the event.

The matter will be voted on at the next council meeting which goes April 14th.

This is the first time the event has ever been staged in Regina and would mark its 50th anniversary.
