Some COVID-19 vaccine appointments are set to be impacted by a delay in Moderna doses to the province.

The federal government announced on Friday that the latest shipment of the Moderna vaccine, which was supposed to arrive this weekend, has been delayed “by a few days.” The expected shipment is carrying just under 600,000 doses for the country.

On Friday, the Saskatchewan Health Authority said the province will be allocated 21,300 of those doses. However the delay could last up to six days.

“This delay stems from the manufacturer and is outside of SHA control,” reads a statement from the health authority.

“The SHA is still assessing the full impact and will notify impacted patients directly next week and reschedule their appointments. A further public announcement will also be made early next week. In the interim, no action is required from patients.”

The health authority also announced that COVID-19 vaccine booking eligibility remains unchanged for this weekend.

Current eligible groups include all individuals 62 years of age and older, individuals 50 years of age and older living in the Northern Saskatchewan Administration District, all remaining phase one health care workers, and people with underlying health conditions who are clinically extremely vulnerable through an eligibility letter.
