A GoFundMe page set up for a 34-year-old nurse in North Battleford who died from apparent COVID-19 complications, is quickly gaining traction.

As of 6:00 a.m. Thursday morning, over $92,000 had been raised for Tom Thomas, described on the fundraiser page as a man who was very active and supportive in community activities and church choir since his family’s arrival in Canada in 2016.

The page says that Thomas, who was originally from India, was isolating at home earlier this week after being diagnosed with COVID-19.

He went to hospital after feeling pain and died of sudden cardiac arrest.

The pages says Thomas’ wife works at a care home in the Battlefords, but was currently on maternity leave, adding the family doesn’t have much in the way of insurance.

Thomas also leaves behind an 18-month-old child.

The campaign was organized and set up by St. Mother Thressa Syro Malabar Church in North Battleford and Battleford Malayalee Association.
