Municipal Justice Building could become Heritage Community Centre

The city’s former Municipal Justice Building might soon be a hub for residents of Regina’s Heritage neighbourhood.

A city project to redevelop the building will see the Heritage Community Association set up a community centre to replace the building’s addition to the north with a new addition.

Shayna Stock with the association says this is something that has been identified for many years as a major gap in the neighbourhood.

“We don’t really have a neutral, large space in which to gather,” said Stock. “We have relied on churches, and schools, and that type of thing, and it’s been great to have those options but those options also aren’t the most accessible to everyone.”

Stock mentioned that the next step is to have the proposal go to city council for approval.
