SMA president ‘strongly denounces’ small protest at Dr. Shahab’s home

One of the province’s top doctors is strongly denouncing a small protest that happened outside of Chief Medical Health Officer Dr. Saqib Shahab’s home over the weekend.

Dr. Barb Konstantynowicz, president of the Saskatchewan Medical Association, shared in a statement on Monday that Saturday’s incident was an attempt to intimidate Dr. Shahab and his family. She added that the organization stands firmly with Dr. Shahab and all of his public health colleagues throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Bringing a protest to Dr. Shahab’s private residence is absolutely unacceptable, and the SMA condemns these actions,” reads the statement by Dr. Konstantynowicz.

The doctor also commended Premier Scott Moe for quickly denouncing the protest on Saturday evening.

“Since the pandemic, physicians and all health-care providers have demonstrated their unwavering commitment to caring for and putting the safety Saskatchewan citizens first. Everyone’s effort to reduce the spread of this virus is critical,” her statement continues.

“The SMA is extremely grateful for Dr. Shahab’s tireless, dedicated efforts in fighting the pandemic on behalf of the people of the province.”
