Two Regina men arrested after dangerous driving incident

Two men are facing charges after a dangerous driving incident in Regina.

Just after midnight Friday, Regina Police attempted to pull over a vehicle in the area of 5th Avenue and Cameron Street. Police activated emergency lights and sirens and the driver sped away, making no attempt to pull over.

Patrol units and unmarked cars were able to keep sight of the vehicle as it evaded, and eventually were in position to safely deploy a spike belt. The vehicle came to a stop in the area of Walden Crescent.

Police found one man inside the vehicle, and the K-9 Unit apprehended the second man, believed to be the driver, hiding under a vehicle nearby. The driver was bitten by a police dog during the arrest. He was taken to hospital for treatment. The driver was found to have been on two probation order at the time of the incident.

25-year-old Nickoloas Velikas has been charged with flight from a peace officer, and two counts of breach of probation.

30-year-old Adriano Vecchioli has been charged with failure to comply with conditions of release.

Both suspects made their first court appearances Friday afternoon.
