COVID-19-positive man arrested by Regina police after refusing to self-isolate

A 36-year-old COVID-19-positive man was arrested by police in Regina on Thursday night after not obeying a detention order.

The individual was ordered to self-isolate due to his positive COVID-19 status in a downtown hotel in Regina which houses people who are required to self-isolate but who may not have the resources or living accommodations that would make it possible to self-isolate.

Officers were called to the location just after 7:30 p.m. after a person was seen leaving the premises “several times” despite the public health orders.

Police who attended the call were dressed in full personal protective equipment to take the man into custody without incident.

He was initially transported to a Regina hospital, but was later moved to a closed-custody medical centre in North Battleford.
