Rooftop fire at south Regina bank controlled within minutes by firefighters

Regina Fire and Protective Services received a fire call on Thursday morning as they were already busy responding to calls related to the winter storm.

Deputy Chief Gord Hewitt said a fire was started at the Royal Bank of Canada location near Gordon Road in the Harbour Landing Grasslands shopping area. Firefighters took the call at 6:59 a.m. and were at the scene within five minutes.

He said it was in the rooftop’s HVAC unit.

“The fire was under control at around 7:20 a.m.,” noted Hewitt. “It was under control within 15 minutes of arrival.”

Hewitt added there was no fire expansion into the building and that some water got into the building due to firefighting efforts. No injuries were reported.

An investigator is looking into the cause of the fire.
