Talk late last year that January and February could be colder than usual was just that.

Southern Saskatchewan has seen temperatures well above the seasonal norm for all of January and the last little bit of December and it isn`t going away for a while yet as extreme long-range forecasts are showing no real change from what we have been experiencing.

Environment Canada`s Eric Dykes says the jetstream pattern takes credit for what we are seeing.

`What that has allowed is for most of the systems that have come through the region to traverse across northern Saskatchewan with all that southerly air flooding across southern Saskatchewan as a result. `Dykes said. `Temperatures will be five to ten degrees above normal for the next week with this warm pattern sticking around for quite some time.”T

The normal high for this time of year is minus 11 with the normal low being minus 23. Dykes says when those normal conditions do return, it will feel colder than that because of the way we have been spoiled.
