Regina man arrested after Boxing Day assault

A Regina man has been charged after assaulting a 26-year-old man.

On Boxing Day, around 8:30 pm, Regina Police responded to a report of knife offence at a business on the 2100 block of Broad Street,

A man had allegedly struck another man in the face and then pulled out a knife before running away from the scene.

A K-9 Officer, who responded first to the scene, was able to see a picture of the suspect taken by another individual.

As other officers arrived, the K-9 Officer located the suspect near 14th Avenue and Hamilton Street. Despite repeated warnings to stop, the suspect continued to walk away. Believing the man was armed, the officer sent the dog to apprehend the suspect.

The suspect was treated by EMS for relatively minor injuries from a dog bite. Further investigation led to charges against the man, who also had an outstanding warrant.

49-year-old Andrew Lionel Ratt has been charged with assault with a weapon. He has been released with a court date set for April 19, 2021.
