After totaling off its only vehicle in a collision, the Queen City Patrol has been gifted two new vehicles from the community.
The organization, which picks up used needles around the city, asked for donations to go towards a new van after losing theirs on December 5th.
Founder of the Queen City Patrol Patty Will says the community support was overwhelming.
“It was just such an amazing outpouring of donations that I don’t even know what to say anymore,” said Will. “It’s just been so overwhelming, some nights I just have to pinch myself to make sure I am still awake.”
The group was given a 2012 GMC Acadia from Capital Automotive Group, and a 2016 Dodge Caravan by SGI.
Will says having two vehicles will mean more opportunities for the Patrol.
“One thing is, of course, we can have more volunteers now. Before we had a 7-passenger (vehicle), which we limited to 3-4 people at a time during Covid,” said Will. “So now we can actually have maybe 8 people out there at the same time now. Both vehicle having 7 passengers makes a big difference.”
She adds the Caravan will be designated as a 24-hour response vehicle for on-call needle pickup.
Other community sponsors that came to the aid of the Patrol include Sharp Signs and Graphics, Kinetic Auto, The Co-operators, and Suds Car Wash.
