Saskatchewan Health Authority reports 12th death at Extendicare Parkside residence

A 12th person at the Extendicare Parkside long-term care home has passed away from COVID-19.

The Saskatchewan Health Authority confirmed the death Thursday, and also announced 141 residents so far have tested positive, along with 30 staff members at the facility.

In an effort to keep them safe, 25 residents who tested negative for COVID-19 were moved to Pioneer Village, but now 19 of those patients have tested positive.

The SHA has entered a co-management with the Extendicare home until at least Jan. 15, where the health authority will oversee the operations of the facility. This comes after a request from the private health care provider requested the assistance.

The SHA also announced they will be conducting an audit of the other Extendicare facilities in Saskatchewan.

The Extendicare Parkside outbreak was first declared on Nov. 20.
