An op-ed by the Sask. Medical Association is requesting additional measures to reduce the spread of COVID-19 in Saskatchewan.

While the government did announce additional measures on Friday including mandatory masks in indoor public spaces for communities of 5,000 people or more, advocates feel more should be done.

Tracy Zambory with Saskatchewan Union of Nurses says they are disappointed the government hasn’t done enough on this front.

“Our seniors are our most vulnerable population, but for some reason we don’t seem to think that mandatory masking is necessary in these smaller communities,” said Zambory. “I’m from a smaller community, I’m from Stoughton. We have a long-term care facility here, a 30-bed facility, where our vulnerable long-term care seniors live.”

The union has joined other organizations such as the Sask. Registered Nurses Association and Sask. College of Pharmacy Professionals to back the op-ed.
