One Regina city Councillor is calling for a better plan for the former Capital Pointe site at the corner of Albert Street and Victoria Avenue.

At a Planning Commission meeting this week, the idea to have a surface parking lot on the site for a year before another plan moves forward was voted down 8-2. Councillor Andrew Stevens was one of the members of council to vote against the idea.

Stevens says there’s still no solid plan in front of council for after the one year parking lot agreement.

“I think that this is part of a very long and ongoing saga about what was Capital Pointe,” Stevens said. “I’m a bit surprised that there would be any recommendation in favour of a surface parking lot.”

“Unless there’s any evidence, I don’t believe it at all,” Stevens said. “We’ve heard many stories, many grand visions about what was going to go on that site since 2010, so until someone shows something concrete, puts money on the table, and demonstrates that this is something that might actually come to fruition, I’m not falling for it.”

When asked what he would like to see at the site, Stevens says a building with business activation or something close to what was originally proposed would be welcome.
